Donations sought for house fire victim

Van Wert Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was dispatched at 8 a.m. New Year’s Day to assist the Van Wert Fire Department at a house fire on Liberty Street. The home sustained heavy damage and left one occupant homeless.

CERT met with the male occupant and determined that the following assistance is needed. Smoke and water damage to bedding, couch, chair, TV, and other household items. Clothing items needed are as follows — Pants size 36-38 waist, 30 inseam; shirt size XL; shoe size 10½; and coat size XL.

All clothing donations can be dropped off to The Salvation Army Thrift Store, 1116 S. Washington St. under the name Gurtner.

Monetary donations for personal belongings can be dropped off to The Van Wert County Foundation, 138 E. Main St.

Household donations can be called into the EMA office to Rick McCoy at 419.238.1300. Once the occupant establishes a place to live, donations will be coordinated at that point for delivery.

CERT is a United Way agency.
