VW independent/submitted information

Charges are reportedly pending in connection with a search warrant served on a North Washington Street residence on Thursday.

Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach noted that the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force, with assistance from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team, served a drug-related search warrant at 226 N. Washington St. in Van Wert. The search warrant was obtained as part of an investigation into alleged drug activity at the residence.

Searchers found what was suspected to be methamphetamine, heroin, drug proceeds, cell phones, and drug paraphernalia in the house, which were seized as evidence in the case. Several people were detained in the house and later released. The investigation is ongoing, with the case expected to be presented to the county grand jury at a later date.

Sheriff Riggenbach said three adults were present in the residence at the time of the search. A nuisance letter was also set to the owner of the property to make the owner aware of alleged illegal activity in the house. The sheriff said the property could be seized if the owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue on the property.

Sheriff Riggenbach also asked that anyone with information on drug activity should contact the sheriff’s office at 419.238.3866 or the office website at www.vanwertcountysheriff.com and click on the “submit a crime tip” link. Anyone reporting information can remain anonymous.

Crime and drug information can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 419.238.STOP, and also remain anonymous while doing so.

The West Central Ohio Crime Task Force is comprised of officers from the Van Wert and Allen County Sheriff’s Offices, Lima Police Department, and several state and federal agencies.
