YWCA creates Empowerment Department

VW independent/submitted information

As part of the YWCA of Van Wert County’s newly adopted Strategic Plan, the YWCA has revamped its Health & Wellness Department to focus more on the Empowerment Platform within its mission. This new department will bring exciting opportunities for women and children, as it relates to making them stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their lives and claiming their rights.

Empowerment programming at the YWCA of Van Wert County is carried out by the Empowerment Resources Department and Victim Services Department working hand-in hand. Some of the services-programs available include, but are not limited to: Mindfulness 1:1 and group sessions, yoga sessions, life-skills sessions, confidence building, growth mindset workshops, healthy relationship awareness, rape crisis prevention, self-defense classes, Human Trafficking 101 training.

J.J. McClain, director of empowerment resources, is looking forward to the opportunity to introduce this new programming to the Van Wert Community.

“The world is chaotic, distracting, and often painful. This department was created to help work through these moments and to help find and celebrate the good in life,” McClain said. “I consider myself truly blessed to be a part of this mission and helping others along the way.”

Mindfulness for Mothers & Teen Daughters is the YWCA’s first Empowerment event, scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, from 7:15-8:30 p.m. This class is a great way to reconnect, grow, and bond with a teen daughter. There is also an upcoming Vision Board Workshop for current freshmen and seniors, as well as a Teen Yoga/Growth Mindset Workshop. Registration and additional information for all upcoming events is now open on the Event Page on the YWCA’s website: www.ywcavanwert.org.

For additional information, contact J.J. McClain at jmcclain@ywcavanwertcounty.org.

The YWCA is partially funded by the Van Wert County Foundation and is a United Way agency.
