YM, Humane Society plan ‘Kitten Yoga’

VW independent/submitted information

The Van Wert Family YMCA and the Van Wert County Humane Society are partnering together to present “Kitten Yoga” on Saturday, June 16.

Over a dozen kittens and cats from the local shelter will roam freely during a one-hour yoga class taught by YMCA yoga instructor Deb Sealscott. Three sessions are available: 8:30, 9:45, and 11 a.m., and they are open to YMCA members and nonmembers.

The fee is $10 per person (age 7 and up) with all proceeds going to the Humane Society.  Donations of kitten food will be accepted.

The health and emotional benefits of yoga and pet ownership are well documented, according to Deb Sealscott who is also a board member of the humane society.   “By combining yoga and cats, you are not only doing something healthy for yourself but also helping to socialize shelter cats.”  All cats will be available for adoption.

“We are thrilled to be part of this adorable fundraising opportunity for the Van Wert County Humane Society,” said YMCA Membership Director Nicole Benson. “Please call the front desk at 419.238.0443 to reserve your spot today. If you cannot participate, the humane society accepts donations on site. Give every animal a loving chance at life and adopt.”
