Lancer girl golfers headed back to district

Lincolnview girls’ golf information

CELINA — The Lincolnview Lady Lancer golf team is headed to district tournament again, but the outcome was undecided until nearly the end of the match on Tuesday.

The Lancers joined 12 other teams at Fox’s Den Golf Course to vie for three district tournament spots at the 2015 Division IV Sectional Tournament. The district tournament will be held in Arlington at Sycamore Spring Golf Club.

Minster posted the best score of the day with an outstanding score of 361, while St. Henry came in second with a team score of 370. The third spot for the tournament came down to perennial state contender Lima Central Catholic, Brad Doidge’s familiar district contender Lincolnview, and Al Welch’s Wayne Trace Raiders.

After the first nine holes, LCC held a commanding 11-stroke lead over the other two teams, with the T-Birds carding a 175 versus both Wayne Trace and Lincolnview tallying 186.  However, the Lancers and Raiders played the back side much better than LCC and the final spot was decided by just three stokes, with Lincolnview coming away with a 384 to 387 win over the Lady Raiders to return to the district tournament for the seventh time. LCC finished with a 390.

Makenzie Kraft, who was a tee time decision with an illness, led the Lancers in scoring with a 90 — the third best score of the day. Teammate Macala Ashbaugh had a 91, the fourth best score of the day, while McKenzie Davis tallied a 99 and Marissa Miller recorded a 106.

Wayne Trace was led in scoring by Individual district qualifier Gilly Wiseman, who posted a 94. Teammate Brook Sinn had a 95, while Haley Dempsey posted a 98 amd Gracie Gudakunst carded a 100.

Minster’s Ali Fischer was match medalist with an 80 and St. Henry’s Jill Schmitmeyer had an 81 for runner-up honors.
