Ruth Marie Stump

Ruth Marie Stump, 90, of Van Wert, died at 1:29 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born November 29, 1923, in Kent, the daughter of the late Med Hardesty and Irene Katheryn (Auer) Granger. On June 29, 1946, she married Richard Orley Stump Sr., who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Richard Orley (Paula) Stump Jr. of Delphos; one daughter, Sharon Miller of Delphos; two brothers, Ralph (Ruth) Granger of Sidney and Donald (Audrey) Granger of Winton, California; a sister, American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Irene Katheryn (Tom) Smith of Landeck; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Granger of Troy and Norma Granger of Findlay; five grandchildren, William Miller, Richard Paul Stump, Aaron Stump, Christina (Karl Placke) Gaugler and Jennifer (Derek) Wehinger; seven great-grandchildren, Jarrod Wehinger, Blake Miller, Dylan Stump, Abigail Stump, Madison Stump, Jessica (Kody Dove) Miller and Taylor Gaugler; and a great-great-grandson, Christian Michael Dove.

A sister, Mary Jeanne Schaffner, six brothers, Robert, Thomas, Carl, Michael, John and Jim Granger; a grandson, Steven Miller; a great-grandson, Andrew Richard Stump; and one son-in-law, Merle Miller, also preceded her in death.

After graduating from high school, she became a licensed practical nurse. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist’s mate at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. She was a member of American Legion Post 268 and its auxiliary in Delphos. She spent most of her nursing career in the Van Wert County Home. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November4, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, November 2, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.
