House fire…

Van Wert firefighters were called to a house fire on Bonnewitz Avenue Thursday afternoon. The Van Wert County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was also dispatched to the house fire to assist a woman left homeless by the fire to find lodging. CERT also provided a canteen for firefighters to help them deal with the heat. CERT is currently asking for donations of furnishings and clothing to assist the fire victim. Needed in addition to home furnishings are women’s pants, size 8; women’s tops, size large; and women’s shoes, size 7½ W. Items can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, 1116 S. Washington St., under the name “Dull”, while monetary donations made out to “The Van Wert County Foundation/CERT” for personal items can be delivered to the Foundation office, 138 E. Main St., also earmarked for Dull. The deadline for donations is Friday, August 16. photo by Rick McCoy for the Van Wert independent
