VW Cougars sweep Wapak Quad

WAPAKONETA — The Cougars cruised to a win at the Wapak Quad at Harmon Field on Tuesday, while the Lady Cougars edged Kenton for the title.

The boys scored 121.25 team points, while Kenton scored 60.50, followed by Ottawa-Glandorf (53) and Wapakoneta (21.25). The girls scored 80.40 points, followed by Kenton (78.70), Ottawa-Glandorf (66.20) and Wapakoneta (27.70).

Caylee Phillips won the 100 meter dash and 800 meter run (13.54 and 2:35.11), and Gracie Gunter finished first in the high jump (4-06) and the 400 meter dash (1:05.28). Other first place finishers for Van Wert were Jill Gemmer (discus, 133-08); Abby Jackson (shot put, 38-00), and Rachel Spath (1600 meter run, 5:58.11).

Second place finishers included Kirsten Clay (shot put, 36-10); Jamison Clouse (long jump, 14-11); Elizabeth Tomlinson (pole vault, 6-06) and Spath (3200 meter run, 13:02.68).

The Cougars were led by Austin Clay’s first place finishes in the discus and shot put (157-03 and 58-02) and Jacob Hart’s times of 11.32 in the 100 meter dash and 23.15 in the 200 meter dash. Clay’s shot put throw set a new school record.

Blake Henry won the high jump (6-04), Asnake Steyer took top honors in the 1600 meter run (4:43.87), and Tyson Jackson won the 300 meter hurdles (43.70). Hunter Sherer finished first in the 800 meter run (2:06.99) and Gage Chiles won the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:33.71.

The 4×800 meter relay team (Trey Laudick, Chiles, Steyer, Sherer) won with a time of 8:43.78, and the 4×200 team of Ethan Brown, Henry, Nathan Jackson and Hart finished first (1:34.06). Hart, Connor Pratt, Brown and Jackson won 4×400 won as well, clocking in at 3:35.05.

Runner up finishes were posted by Colin Place (shot put, 44-06); Chiles (1600 meter run, 4:48.40); Pratt (400 meter dash, 55.09); Jackson Eddins (300 meter hurdles, 46.26); Steyer (800 meter run, 2:08.90) and Gage Wannemacher (3200 meter run, 10:58.68).
