Van Wert wrestlers defeat Shawnee

LIMA — Gabe Steyer and Isaiah Bretz led Van Wert to a 36-25 Western Buckeye League wrestling win against Shawnee on Thursday.

Steyer (138) improved to 21-2 with a pin at the 1:53 mark, while Bretz (152) remained undefeated (19-0) with a pin in 3:22. Also winning for the Cougars: Jacob Sealcott (145) with a pin in 1:20.  

Macein Bigham (160), Spencer Blue (182) and Eli Kline (285) won by forfeit. 

Malachi Battle (170) lost 6-1, while Brice Waldron (220) was pinned in 1:29. Killian Sudduth (120) lost via a pin at the 3:34 mark, Ben Lange was pinned in 2:54 and Devon West (132) dropped a 13-2 decision.

“We continue to improve and are taking steps toward our goals at the end of the year,” Van Wert head coach Ben Collins said. 

Van Wert will host Kenton next Thursday.
