Volleyball

Van Wert 3 Elida 0

The Lady Cougars hit the road and swept Elida 25-11, 25-19, 25-21 on Tuesdsay.

Adrianna Grothause finished with a team high 26 digs, Noelle Heffner had 17 assists and Reagan Priest and Jamison Clouse each had 11 kills. Jaylyn Rickard, Grothause and Priest each had a pair of aces.

Van Wert (12-6, 4-2 WBL) will host Bath on Thursday.

Tennis

Lima Central Catholic 3 Van Wert 2

Van Wert picked up wins at third singles and second doubles but fell to Lima Central Catholic 3-2 on Monday.

At second doubles, Jada Buckner defeated Carrie Heider 6-0, 6-0, while the second doubles duo of Emma Rutkowski and Lizzie Rutkowski topped Cameron Guagenti and Nicole Patrico Agosto 6-6 (2-7), 6-0, 10-5.

At first singles, Lima Central Catholic’s Olivia Kesner defeated Alli Morrow 6-0, 6-0, while Allie Etter fell to Morgan Chaney at second singles 6-2, 6-4. At first doubles, Anna Janowski and Maddie Brinkman defeated Olivia Kline and Paige Moonshower 6-0,6-1.

“This was a very competitive match against a very good Thunderbird squad, and I am extremely proud of how my girls performed,” Van Wert head coach Eli Alvarez said. “It was also a bitter sweet night as our two seniors, Liv & Emma played their final home match.”

Van Wert will compete in the Division II sectionals at UNOH on Thursday.

Soccer

Coldwater 6 Crestview 2 (girls)

Crestview and Coldwater were tied 2-2 after 65 minutes, but the visiting Lady Cavaliers pulled away with four goals to win 6-2 on Tuesday.

Crestview’s Maddi Ward scored in the first half and Chelsi Young put in a penalty kick in the second half. Jade Sheaffer and Hope Loyer anchored the defense, and Mckenna Thompson had 19 saves on the night.

Crestview (2-8-1) will play at Bluffton on Monday.

Celina 7 Van Wert 1 (girls)

The Lady Cougars were defeated by visiting Celina 7-1 on Tuesday, with Elizabeth Tomlinson scoring Van Wert’s lone goal.

Van Wert (1-11-1) will host Fort Jennings on Thursday.
