Lots of area students in grades 8-12 and their parents received career information from area employers during Wednesday’s Employer-Student-Parent Connection event held at Vantage Career Center.

Miriam Owens, secretary to the superintendent at Vantage — the prime organizer of this year’s event — explained that Vantage’s aim this year was to build on what was done the first year.

“This year we were just looking to expand the opportunity for these students and for these parents to just gain a better perspective for what is out there, what is out there locally,” Owens said on Wednesday, noting that, while last year’s event was Van Wert County driven, the 2018 edition was opened up to Vantage’s 13 associate school districts as well. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout.”

Owens said a total of 46 businesses had informational booths at the 2018 event — a substantial increase over the 28 employers who participated in last year’s event.

Vantage High School Director Tony Unverferth also said he felt the program was a great way for area students and their parents to find out information about local employers.

Employers participating represented a diverse cross-section of area businesses, from agriculture to insurance, and healthcare to banking and non-profits.

The event was held in Vantage’s commons area.
