L’view, C’view girls win; Lady Cougars fall

Girls’ sectional semifinal basketball tipped off around the area on Tuesday night. Below is a recap of games played by Lincolnview, Crestview and Van Wert.

Lincolnview 52 Delphos St. John’s 48 OT

Kayla Schimmoeller’s foul shot with no time left in regulation sent the game to overtime, then Lincolnview outscored Delphos St. John’s 12-8 in the extra session to win the Division IV sectional opener 52-48 at Paulding High School on Tuesday night.

Alena Looser scored seven of Lincolnview’s 12 points in the overtime period. She finished with 15 points, while Schimmoeller tallied 14. Taylor Zuber led the Blue Jays with 13 points, and Paige Gaynier chipped in with 11.

The two teams found themselves tied at 13 after one quarter, and Lincolnview led 21-17 at halftime. The Lady Lancers enjoyed a 31-29 lead after three quarters, but Delphos St. John’s (9-14) took a 40-39 lead late in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for Schimmoeller’s heroics.

The Lady Lancers (11-12) will return to Paulding Saturday to face NWC foe Delphos Jefferson (12-9) for the lower bracket sectional championship. The first game of the night will feature Ottoville and Pandora-Gilboa.

Crestview 60 Patrick Henry 34

The Crestview Lady Knights tipped off Division III sectional tournament action with a convincing 60-34 victory over Patrick Henry at Lincolnview High School on Tuesday night.

Crestview put the game away early with a 24-9 scoring advantage in the first quarter, followed by a 34-13 halftime lead.

The Lady Knights held the Patriots to 24 percent shooting (10 of 41), while connecting on 48 percent (23 of 48) of their own shots.

Paige Motycka led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Lexi Gregory (16) and Lyvia Black (15).

The loss ended Patrick Henry’s season at 7-16, while Crestview improved to 17-6. The Lady Knights will play Hicksville for the upper bracket sectional championship at Lincolnview at 6 p.m. on Saturday. It’s a rematch of a December 30 game, won by the Lady Aces 44-28.

Elida 61 Van Wert 44

Van Wert’s season came to an end with a 61-44 loss to Elida in the Division II sectional semifinals at Spencerville High School on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cougars trailed 19-10 at the end of the first quarter, 33-15 at the half and 45-28 after three quarters.

Reagan Priest led Van Wert (8-15) with 15 points and Caylee Phillips finished with 13.
