YWCA announces heart-healthy classes

VW independent/submitted information

February is National Heart Health Month and the YWCA of Van Wert County wanted to give a variety of options for people to get their hearts working this month!

There will be three special evening classes this month that are free and open to the public and focus on heart healthy workouts and topics.  All ages 12 and over, and every fitness level, are welcome to attend. Pre-registration is required by calling 419.238.6639 or emailing jmcclain@ywcavanwertcounty.org.

At 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, there will be “HIT it for the Heart” event, a full-body circuit workout that will blast calories, build lean muscle, burn fat, and improve cardiovascular fitness. The following week there will be “Yoga for the Heart” at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, February 22 — with certified yoga instructor Elaine Sutton — working on heart centered yoga and stretching, as well as touching on the benefits of yoga for heart health.

At 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, there will be “Step & Sculpt for the Heart,” a combination workout of cardio and strength using steps, weights, and choreography designed to build cardiovascular endurance, burn fat, and crush calories while strengthening and toning all major muscles.

“Cardiovascular disease kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds in the United States, but statistics show that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes,” said YWCA Health and Wellness Coordinator J.J. McClain. “We wanted to offer a few special, fun, free classes this month to help people have both cost-effective accessibility and information on things they can do to help their heart health.”

For more information on the events or to register, contact McClain the above telephone number or email address.

The YWCA is a non-profit organization and a United Way and Van Wert County Foundation agency.
