Daniel Morgan, 28, is incarcerated in the Van Wert Correctional Facility until his arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court on a charge of violation of a protection order, a fifth-degree felony.

A handgun, what is believed to be cocaine, as well as marijuana and cash, were confiscated at the Crawford Street residence. The drugs will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation laboratory for testing, with the case being handed over to the Van Wert County Prosecutor’s Office after police have completed their investigation.

According to a news release, the Van Wert Police Department’s Detective Bureau presented probable cause for a search warrant at the East Crawford Street residence after detectives investigated a tip that illegal narcotics were being sold out of the residence. A warrant was subsequently granted in Common Pleas Court.

At approximately 6 a.m. Friday, police executed a search warrant at the residence. After the initial contact at the residence, two women came out without any problems, but Morgan did not respond to commands that he leave the house. Police then fired teargas into the residence, and Morgan later jumped from a two-story window of the house and tried to flee.

He was quickly apprehended and taken to Van Wert County Hospital for treatment after he complained he hurt his leg while jumping from the residence.

The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted police in maintaining a perimeter around the Crawford Street residence.
