Public invited to vets memorial ceremony

VW independent/submitted information

SCOTT — It may not be Memorial Day, Veterans Day, or the Fourth of July, but this Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m. in Bressler Park in Scott, there will be a special ceremony to dedicate the Scott Veterans Memorial honoring those brave local soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

It has been the vision of Scott native Stan Pratt, a retired U.S. Army Reserve veteran with 21 years of service, to create a special place of honor for those from the Scott area who were killed in action.

In addition, Paulding Exempted Village Schools’ art teacher Sandy Dobbelaere has painted a mural on the side of the utility building at the ballpark to honor those heroes.

Saturday’s ceremony will include a color guard, wreath laying, and 21-gun salute, while family members of the fallen will present name plates for their loved ones to be permanently mounted on the base of the sculpture.

The public is invited to pay respect to the local heroes and their families.

Funding for this project has come totally from public donations, with Pratt saying he would like to expand on this memorial as funds allow. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 119, Scott, OH 45886.
