Marilyn Sue Bartz

Marilyn Sue Bartz of Van Wert passed away with family by her side at 2:15 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Convoy.

She was born September 24, 1927, in Van Wert, the daughter of Kenneth B. and Manota (Thompson) Edwards, who both preceded her in death. On July 27, 1946, she married Verne Cadell Bartz, who died November 17, 2014.

Survivors include two children, Tom E. (Tammy) Bartz of rural Grover Hill and Joan K. Bartz of Selah, Washington; a brother, Franklin Bert (Grace) Edwards of Grover Hill; two grandchildren, Brandon Bartz and Kristy Grindell; three stepgrandchildren, Chad Jay, Matthew Jay, and Kristen Maenle; six great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Two stepgrandchildren, Anthony Jay and Jennifer Jay, also preceded her in death.

She was a retired restaurant manager at Van Wert Holiday Inn and was a licensed beautician. Susie was known as a loving and selfless person who always put the wants and needs of her family first. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always loved to cook for others. One of her favorite things to do was wintering in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where she was able to enjoy her long walks on the beach.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date at IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
