VWHS attends Beta State Convention

On March 31 and April 1, Van Wert High School Beta Club members attended the Ohio State Beta Convention held in Columbus. Van Wert was one of eleven attending high schools and finished second in the school competition.

Junior Cade Chiles represented Van Wert by running for state Beta office and successfully was elected Ohio State Beta President for the next year. This position is chosen by attending students’ votes from all schools.

Van Wert participated in several academic and artistic competitions, where students received high marks.  Students receiving awards in art include Haley Walker, 1st in digital art, Abby Lawson, 2nd in drawing, Chloe Brake, 1st in fiber arts, Megan Woodruff, 1st in mixed media, Shianne Baldwin, 2nd in painting and 3rd in onsite acrylic art, Meghan Moonshower, 2nd in water color, Dominique Grothause, 2nd in onsite drawing, Katie Trittschuch, 3rd in onsite color pencil, Morgan Bracken, Ally Jackson, Meghan Moonshower, and Cassidy Sinning, 5th in advertising design.

Students receiving awards in the academic areas include Katelyn Maxson, 3rd in creative writing, Cade Fleming, 4th in English, Erin Richardson and Ryan Stoller, 3rd in Math, Abby Lawson and Kaleb Cantrell, 6th in Social Studies, Mikayla Hernandez and Jacob Covey, 1st in Spelling, Gavin Ferckel, 4th in Short Story, Andy Hammond, 2nd in Oratory, Brandon Hernandez, Matt Reichert, Austin Sudduth, Ben Scheidt, 3rd in Quiz Bowl, and Noah Miller and Sandy Nguyen, 2nd in Special Talent. Beta Club is for select students and is founded on leadership, service, and character principles.
