The Van Wert Area Photography Club met Thursday, April 14, at 114 South Race St. Stuart Jewett and Tracy Sterling reported on their experiences at a model shoot that was held from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Collingwood Arts Center in Toledo. In addition to models being available at an hourly rate, there were also vendors available selling photographic equipment.

Rex Dolby gave a report on the club’s progress towards its federal and state 501(c)(3) status. Dolby stated that since the last meeting, the state had confirmed our amendment to our Articles of Corporation, the federal IRS and state had granted us 501(c)(3) status, the state tax form had been filed. The federal return will be completed within a week after we receive their PIN and Enrollment numbers.

Randy Shellenbarger’s surprise was that he had set up a high speed photography opportunity. Randy set a clear container on a sheet of plastic which looked similar to a shower door. Under and to the side he positioned fill lights and draped a black cloth behind the container, which he filled with Sprite for the bubble action.

Among the objects dropped into the Sprite was a large strawberry with green leaves to create a splash and ripples. Cameras set to fire 128 frames per second or higher were triggered as the berry dropped into the Sprite, which provided a step by step account of the berry’s fall, impact, and return to the surface. The most dramatic frames will be selected for printing. We appreciate Randy’s efforts in setting up the shoot as well as providing some goodies for everyone.
