Essay Contest winners

The Van Wert Optimist Club recently held its annual Essay Contest honoring three Van Wert High School students during the club’s March 17 meeting. Michael Etter won first place and a $200 award. In addition, his winning essay was submitted to the district level for further judging. Second-place finisher Meghan Moonshower received $100, and third-place finisher Aaliyyah Ashbaugh was awarded $50. Medallions and certificates were also presented. Shown (from the left) are VWHS language arts teacher Nancy Brown; Etter, Moonshower, and Ashbaugh; Optimist President Brett Thatcher; and Optimist Essay Committee Chair Diana Cearns. Judges this year were Bitsy Clark, Vicki Bidlack, and Kylee Moody.
