Midwest Electric donates to DARE, others

Members of Midwest Electric recently donated $15,475 to nine west-central Ohio charities and community projects through the cooperative’s Community Connection Fund.
Since the program started in 1998, the Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund has provided $904,283 to 729 area projects.
The latest recipients are:
- CALL Food Ministries, Celina — $5,000 to buy refrigeration units for food storage.
- St. Henry EMS — $5,000 to help purchase a generator for the new EMS building.
- New Bremen German Township Fire Department — $1,500 to buy iPad tablets for use in emergency vehicles to work with the Active 9-1-1 app that helps facilitate emergency response.
- Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys — $1,500 to help support the music therapy program for hospice care.
- Celina Baseball Association — $750 to purchase bats and balls for the ACME baseball program.
- Family Life Center of Auglaize County — $675 to buy car seats for the Young Parent program.
- Van Wert County DARE — $500 for supplies and prizes for DARE events.
- Delphos Public Library — $300 to buy cake pans for the cake pan check-out collection.
- Otterbein St. Marys — $250 to buy materials for residents to make blankets that are given to foster children.
The Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund is a voluntary charitable program. Participating members’ monthly electric bills are rounded up to the next dollar, with the additional pennies deposited in the fund.
A Board of Trustees, composed of cooperative members and separate from the Midwest Electric Board of Trustees, oversees the application and allocation process.
