Knights win sectional title at Allen East

HARROD — The Crestview Lady Knights are headed to district tournament play at Wapakoneta with a 37-30 victory over New Bremen on Saturday in the Division IV sectional tournament held at Allen East High School.

The Knights led by three points, 8-5, at the end of the first quarter, but outscored New Bremen 12-6 in the second stanza to go up by nine points, 20-11, at the half.

The Lady Cardinals cut that lead to four points in the third quarter with an 11-6 run, but Crestview finished strong, outscoring the New Bremen squad 11-8 in the final quarter for the somewhat sloppy victory.

The Lady Knights were led offensively by Emily Bauer’s 13 points, while Paige Motycka added 11 points for Crestview. New Bremen’s Debbie Paul was the game’s top scorer with 14 points, while Alyse Clune scored 9 points for the Cardinals.

The Knights were 16 of 41 from the field (39 percent), while making just 2 of 7 free throws (28.6 percent). New Bremen was even colder from the field, making 10 of 42 field goal attempts (23.8 percent). The Cardinals were 9 of 16 from the free throw line (56.3 percent).

New Bremen outrebounding the Knights, 25-21, but Crestview had fewer turnovers (13-16).

The Knights, who are now 17-4 with the win, will play Marion Local (13-11) next in the district semifinals at Wapakoneta this Thursday, February 25.
