Ruth M. Osting

Ruth M. Osting, 89, of Middle Point, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born December 2, 1926, in Fort Jennings, the daughter of Edmund and Ann (Lucke) Rekart, who both preceded her in death. In 1950, she married Urban Osting, who died September 8, 1997.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen (Scott) Church of Kettering, Bernice (Robert) Hammons of Delphos, and Sharon (Robert) Jacobs of Sidell, Louisiana; two sons, Vernon (Steven Boswell) Osting of Palm Springs, California, and Alfred Osting of Van Wert; seven grandchildren, Bradley (Emily) Church, Erin Church, Kristin (Adam) Sawmiller, Brian Hammons, Travis (Tricia) Osting, Todd (Kelbi) Osting, and Emily Osting; two great-grandchildren, Henry Church and Kenzie Sawmiller; and four sisters, Arleen Peters of Ottoville, Catherine Miller of Delphos, Vivian Hines of Elida, and Carol Michel of Toledo.

A brother, Kenneth Rekart; and three brothers-in-law, Arnold Peters, Herbert Miller, and Bernard Hines, also preceded her in death.

Ruth was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. She was a homemaker and was an avid baker, baking various baked goods, but especially pies, donating them to various causes. She enjoyed sewing for family and friends and was an enthusiastic gardener, canning a lot of the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters, but most important was spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 24, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
