Knights win over Cougars; Lancers lose

The Crestview Lady Knights moved to 9-4 on the season as they defeated Van Wert 54-26 in a non-conference game played in Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

Sophomore Paige Motycka led Crestview offensively with 15 points and six assists, while senior Emily Bauer added 14 points and seven rebounds to go along with five steals defensively. Cassidy Meyers led Van Wert with 8 points.

The Lady Knights got out to a seven-point lead, 12-5, in the first quarter, and expanded their lead to 12, 22-10, at the half. The Crestview lead was 19 points at the three-quarter mark, 39-20.

The Lady Cougars made 10 of 28 from the field (35 percent), including 2 of 9 from three-point range (22 percent). Van Wert was 4 of 10 from the free throw line (40 percent).

Crestview was 20 of 48 from the field (41 percent) and made 4 of 13 three-point attempts (30 percent). The Knights made 10 of 13 at the line (76 percent).

Crestview outrebounded the Cougars 24-15, while having just 3 turnovers, to 17 for Van Wert.

Crestview will take on Lincolnview in Northwest Conference action this Thursday, January 21, in Convoy at 6 p.m.

The Lincolnview Lady Lancers dropped a game to Antwerp, 51-40, on Monday at Antwerp.

The Lady Lancers were up by seven points, 13-6, at the end of the first quarter, but led by only four, 20-16, at the half.

The Lady Archers then went on a 16-7 third-quarter run to take a five-point lead, 32-27, and outscored Lincolnview 18-14 to maintain their lead in the final stanza for the win.

The Lady Lancers made 13 of 34 field goal attempts (38 percent), including 3 of 9 from three-point range (33.3 percent). Lincolnview was 12 of 15 from the free throw line (80 percent).

Antwerp made 16 of 35 shots from the field (45 percent) and was 2 of 6 (33.3 percent) from behind the arc. The Archers were 16 of 29 from the charity stripe (55 percent).

Both teams had 22 rebounds, while Lincolnview had double the turnovers 16-8 of the Archers.
