4 sent to prison for probation violations

Five people appeared in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday on probation violation charges, with four of those headed for prison for using drugs. Probate-Juvenile Judge Kevin Taylor presided over all five hearings.

Court artwork 12-2013 copyTyler Mohr, 21, of Van Wert, admitted to violating his community control probation by being in possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to serve a previously deferred prison term of 24 months, while Judge Taylor gave Mohr credit for 290 days already served.

Adam Stripe, 38, of Van Wert, admitted to being in possession of a controlled substance during his probation violation hearing and he was sentenced to serve a deferred prison sentence of 12 months, with credit given for 173 days already served.

Alisha Stemen, 23, of Van Wert, also admitted to violating her probation by being in possession of a controlled substance and refusing to take a drug test when ordered to do so. She was ordered to serve three 12-month and one 24-month prison sentences, all to be served concurrently with one another, while also receiving credit for 132 days already served.

Matthew Foehl, 30, of Van Wert, also admitted to violating his probation by having drugs in his possession.

He was sentenced to serve an 18-month prison sentenced handed down in 2015, plus two nine-month sentences deferred from 2013. All three sentences will be served concurrently. Judge Taylor also gave Foehl credit for 172 days already served.

A fifth person, Josh Sargent, 34, of Van Wert, also admitted to violating his probation. Sargent, who failed an alcohol test, was resentenced to five years of community control, and must undergo an alcohol assessment, as well as any treatment recommended.

A 60-day jail sentence was also handed down, to be served at a later date, while an 18-month prison sentence was deferred.
