Blue Jays get victory over Van Wert girls

The Van Wert Lady Cougars remain winless after a 48-30 non-conference loss to Delphos St. John’s Monday in the Cougars’ Den.

The Lady Blue Jays had two players in double figures: Madilynn Schulte with 11 points and Sydney Fischbach with 10 points. Van Wert, which had no one in double figures, was led by Cassidy Myers’ 9 points.

St. John’s got off to a nine-point lead in the first quarter, 13-4, and was up by 15 points, 27-12, at the half. The Blue Jays led by 19 points, 42-23, at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Cougars outscored St. John’s 7-6 in the final stanza, but the mini-rally was much too little to affect the outcome of the game.

With the loss, Van Wert is now 0-9 overall on the year, while the Blue Jays move to 5-2 overall this season.

The Lady Cougars will next play Monday, December 28, at Fort Recovery. The junior varsity game will begin at 6 p.m.
