VW man arrested, charged with assault

A Van Wert man is in jail today on charges related to a domestic disturbance that occurred Thursday evening.

Joseph A. Mohr Jr., 39, of Van Wert, is charged with felonious assault, a felony of the second degree, for allegedly, for attacking a woman victim, while he also faces two counts of assault, both fourth-degree felonies, for assaulting police officers who responded to the scene.

Mohr is currently incarcerated in the Van Wert County Correctional Facility until his initial appearance in Van Wert Municipal Court.

According to a Van Wert Police Department news release, officers were called to 327 N. Wayne St. at approximately 6:20 p.m. Thursday. Shortly after officers arrived, they heard a woman yelling for help. When officers attempted to gain entry into the residence, a man ran out the back door and was later apprehended. Police also obtained a search warrant from Municipal Court and found several items of evidence while searching the premises. Those included a large amount of cash, and substances thought to be heroin, cocaine and Suboxone.

Additional charges are pending the next session of the county grand jury.
