Missed PAT difference as Knights lose

CONVOY — A missed extra point was the difference as the Ada Bulldogs stole a Homecoming victory away from Crestview with a 14-13 Northwest Conference win at Crestview.
The Knights dominated the stats, compiling 351 yards of total offense, versus 177 for Ada and 14 first downs to 7 for the Bulldogs, but Ada got the points it needed for the win.
Crestview led off the scoring in the first quarter when quarterback Dylan Grandstaff hit Braden Van Cleave for a 69-yard touchdown with 3:52 remaining in the quarter. Nick Springer kicked the extra point and the Knights led 7-0 over Ada.
The Bulldogs scored their first points with 8:06 remaining in the first half when Ada quarterback Trent Jolliff found Blake Ansley for a 53-yard scoring strike to even the score at 7-all after Aaron Everhart’s point-after kick.
The half ended in a tie, but the Knights came out determined to score in the third quarter and did so when Grandstaff legged it into the end zone from 8 yards out with 6:20 remaining on the third-quarter clock. The PAT kick failed, though, and Crestview led by six, 13-7.
Ada scored the last touchdown of the game with 7:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jolliff again found Ansley, this time for a 5-yard TD pass that tied it up at 13-all. Chase Sumner kicked the point-after, though, to make the score 14-13.
Crestview had its chance in the game, but turnovers (two lost fumbles and three interceptions) kept the Knights’ offense untracked most of the night.
Grandstaff hit 11 of 17 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown, but the three picks marred that total and stalled what could have been scoring drives.
Jolliff was 19 of 32 for 190 yards, two TDs and an interception.
Leading rusher for Crestview was Grandstaff, who carried the ball 21 times for 62 yards and a touchdown.
