David L. Smith

David L. Smith, 62, of Van Wert, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Somerset Hospital in Somerset, Pennsylvania.

He was born October 5, 1953, in Paulding, the son of Paul Smith and Verdene (Pease) Lehman Simmindinger, who both preceded him in death. On October 21, 1972, he married Brenda (Thomas) Smith, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include three children, Jennifer (Amy Robison) Smith of Van Wert, Cory (David) Hershberger of Ohio City and Sarah (David) Leaser of Van Wert; three stepbrothers, Danny (Judy) Lehman of Springfield, David (Judi) Lehman of Flatonia, Texas, and Denny Lehman of Kodiak, Tennessee; two sisters, Marlene (Brett) Gardner of Van Wert and Twila (Ronnie) Harris of Fordyce, Arkansas; two stepsisters, Debbie Ainsworth of Ohio City and Diane (Dick) Jenkins of Elida; and six grandchildren.

A stepbrother-in-law, Mark Ainsworth; and two sisters, Maryann Smith and Donnakay Lehman, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, October 24, at the funeral home.
