Cougar volleyball team loses to Defiance

The Van Wert Lady Cougar varsity volleyball lost to Defiance in four sets: 25-17, 15-25, 23-25 and 16-25.

For Van Wert, Peyton Fleming was 11/11 serving and Landrie Koontz was 7/7.  Karli Turnwald was 10/12 serving with an ace.

Megan Spray was 115/117 setting with 27 assists, while Emma Kohn was 25/32 hitting with 10 kills, Koontz was 28/37 hitting with nine kills and Fleming was 15/18 with six kills.

Fleming had six blocks and Morgan Magowan and Megan Sonnleitner each had three blocks. Domonique Grothause led the team in digs with 12.

Van Wert’s five seniors: Grothause, Koontz, Morgan Magowan, Sonnleitner and Karli Turnwald were honored prior to their last home match.

Van Wert moves to 5-16 on the season and 2-6 in the Western Buckeye League. The Lady Cougars will next play at Wapakoneta this Thursday for their last regular season match.

The Van Wert junior varsity squad also lost to Defiance in three sets: 25-23, 15-25, and 22-25.

The JVs’ record now stands at 13-8 on the season.
