Lancer boys win O-G CC meet, girls 3rd

Lincolnview cross country information

OTTAWA — The Lincolnview Lancer cross country teams competed in the Ottawa-Glandorf Invitational on Saturday. Both teams are currently ranked in the OATCCC state cross country poll.

The 12th-ranked Lincolnview boys easily won the meet, placing their top five scorers in the top 20 of the race. The Lancers were led by two top 10 finishes in Austin Elick, who was fifth overall, and Trevor Neate, who placed eighth.  Rounding out the scoring were three freshmen: Karter Tow in 12th, Jacob Keysor in 14th, and Alek Bowersock in 20th.

“The boys competed well today; it was a different kind of race in that the course was very muddy, which played into our strength,” said Lincolnview Coach Matt Langdon. “We are a pack team and this race became all about position and placing.

“I thought the guys did a great job of finding each other during the race and working together,” Coach Langdon added. “Our three freshmen did an outstanding job today and gave us a little more depth.”

The 11th-ranked girls placed third, just two points behind Fairview.  They were led by two meet medalists in Anna Gorman, who placed eighth, and Brayden Langdon, who was 17th. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Lancers were Rylee Byrne, in 21st place; Alena Looser, in 26th place; and Abbie Enyart, in 27th place.

“For the girls to reach their full potential we have to find consistency,” Coach Langdon noted. “We saw some individual great performances today, but still have yet to have everyone do that in the same race.

“Once that happens, we will see even better things from this group,” the coach added. “Fortunately, we have some time left to work this out.  I loved the attitude of our girls today, despite the conditions. They embraced the rain and mud and just went out and competed. That will pay off down the road.”
