COLUMBUS GROVE — The Lincolnview Lancer cross country teams competed in the Columbus Grove Invitational on Saturday.  Both varsity teams placed in the top three of the meet, with the boys taking home the runner-up trophy — just 4 points behind state ranked Carey in the field of 27 schools. The girls team placed third overall behind No. 1-state ranked Minster and 13 points behind No. 10-ranked Botkins.

The boys were led by senior Trevor Neate, who placed 12th overall in a time of 17:10. He was followed closely by the Lancer pack, which included freshman Karter Tow in 15th (17:18), Austin Elick in 19th (17:24), Colton Snyder in 22nd (17:34), and Alek Bowersock in 31st (17:50).  Rounding out the varsity for the boys was Andrew Fickert in 39th (18:01) and Jacob Keysor in 46th place (18:12).

“The boys ran a very strategic and smart race today,” said Lincolnview Coach Matt Langdon. “We have been working on closing our pack earlier in the race and moving from the mile mark to the finish.

“They did that,” Langdon added. “They were constantly on the move and it paid off in a big way. We put ourselves in a position to beat a very strong Carey team.

“This was a good day for the boys with many career best times,” Coach Langdon said. “We are finally starting to understand how we need to race to be successful down the road.”

The girls were led by senior Anna Gorman, who placed 20th overall in a time of 20:54.  She was followed closely by teammates Abbie Enyart in 22nd place (21:15) and freshmen Rylee Byrne, 28th (21:27), and Brayden Langdon 31st (21:35).  Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Lancers were Alena Looser, 44th (22:27); Madeline Snyder 50 (22:39); and Trinity Welch, 59th (23:02).

“The girls had a great bounce-back performance from our Tuesday meet.  We were in striking distance of No. 10-ranked Botkins, who has a very talented team, including the overall individual winner,” Langdon noted. “The girls are still figuring this out and they still have a very high ceiling for improvement.

“This was a huge step forward for them,” Langdon added. “Now we can re-group and prepare for Tiffin next weekend.”
