W. Jean Pontius

W. Jean Pontius of Van Wert died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born July 13, 1929, in Lima, the daughter of Elmer Ernest and Pauline (Ralston) Goodwin, who both preceded her in death. On December 5, 1954, she married James “Too Tall” Pontius, who died in 2012.

Survivors include three children, Ginger (Brent) Heyneman of Strongsville, Tamre (Michael) Hileman of Rockford and James E. “Jeep” (Shelley) Pontius of Dublin; a brother-in-law, William Pontius of Fairhaven, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Goodwin of Van Wert; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Peggy Jane Pontius, and one brother, Ernest Goodwin, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Calling hours are from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
