Gene Francis Metzinger

Gene Francis Metzinger, 89, of Rockford and formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania, died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015, at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, where he had been a resident since 2010.

He was born November 12, 1925, in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Anthony and Carrie (Lesko) Metzinger, who both preceded him in death. On October 15, 1955, in Summit, New Jersey, he married Joan (Sharp) Metzinger, who died March 1, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Andy (Cami) Metzinger of McMurray, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Missy (Doug) Vonderhaar of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be conducted in Erie, Pennsylvania, at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were handled by Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford.
