3 hurt in 2-car crash in Liberty Township

The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash in

Van Wert County.  As a result of the crash, two people were transported to the Van Wert Hospital, and one was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, via Life-flight.

osplogoThe crash occurred at 8:52 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 127 near mile post 2 in Liberty Township in Van Wert County.

According to troopers, a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Storm McGinnis, 23, of Van Wert, was southbound on U.S. 127 when McGinnis failed to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle, which veered off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, returned to the roadway, and proceeded over the center yellow line of the highway, where it struck a 2007 Ford 500 driven north on U.S. 127 by Scott Danner, 44, of Payne.

The Impala came to final rest on Route 127, while the Ford spun off the east side of the roadway, coming to rest in the field.

McGinnis was transported to the hospital for treatment via Life-flight, where he remains in critical condition today. Danner and a passenger, Annette Danner, 42, were both taken to Van Wert County Hospital by the Ohio City EMS squad, where they were treated and released.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.  Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.

Also assisting at the scene were the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio City Fire Department personnel and Superior Towing.
