Marilyn Rose (Phillipy) Baker, 87, of Van Wert, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at 3:38 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born September 1, 1927, in Van Wert, the daughter of Ream Taylor Phillipy and Wilma Nevada (Hertel) Phillipy Roop, who both preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, Linda (Karl) Waite of Atlanta, Georgia, David (Wanda) Baker of Huntsville, Alabama, and Cathy (Eric) Taylor and Larry Baker, both of Van Wert; four grandchildren, Lorina Bryde, Kimberly Waite, Austin Baker and Karla (Brett) Shull; and three great-grandchildren, Aleah, Raven and Emma Shull.

A brother, William Harry Phillipy; and one sister, Virginia Ann (Phillipy) Clemmensen, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Baker attended Grace Bible Church in Van Wert. She was a member of First Families of Van Wert County, the Van Wert County Historical Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society, was a past member of Zenobia Shriners and Order of Eastern Star, and had also been a Cub Scout den mother and Campfire Girls leader. She was an avid gardener and bingo player.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at Grace Bible Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Lance Hostetler officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 9, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
