Lucia A. Bartz

Lucia A. Bartz, 91, formerly of Middle Point, died at 1:19 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born August 13, 1923, in Kronau, Germany, the daughter of Oskar and Johanna (Hofmann) Machtel, who both preceded her in death. She married Curtis V. Bartz, who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Sharon) Bartz of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Walter (Kelly) Bartz of Van Wert; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn (John) Doner of Van Wert; one sister, Berta Kinnison of Verdigre, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Hans Peter Bartz, also preceded her in death.

Lucia was a waitress at Balyeat’s Coffee Shop for more than 57 years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, and Twig II of Van Wert County Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 26, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Vancrest of Convoy Activities Fund, Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center or Middle Point EMS.
