Students and staff are finally getting back into the swing of things after having two weeks off of school.  Even though it was a break, some students were busy with various activities. Two Fridays ago the homecoming queen was crowned.  Athletics still continued as both the boys and girls basketball teams improved their records. NHS students are preparing the annual blood drive that comes to Crestview every year with a little change to bring.

The last week of school before break was homecoming week. Before the varsity game that Friday night, senior Vicky Callow was named homecoming queen. “It was really exciting and I didn’t expect it so I was pretty surprised. I’m very thankful for everyone who voted for me,” said Callow.  Senior candidates standing beside Callow were Courtney Trigg and Mackenzie Riggenbach

In athletics the Lady Knights still continue their winning record being 8-1. They defeated Fort Jennings and Kalida over break.  They will be in conference action tonight against Delphos Jefferson.  In varsity boys action, they moved to 5-3 in the season. They defeated Fort Jennings and Ottoville but fell to Miller City. They hope to jump back and defeat Jefferson tomorrow night. Senior Mitchell Rickard said, “We are ready to get back on track and take on a tough Jefferson team that we know will bring it at us.”

NHS is still on the move to make a difference.  During break some NHS students went to Thomas Edison to have a Christmas party with the adults. They served them a meal and played games that included a scavenger hunt. “I went into it expecting to be a lot of work but it ended up being really fun. I enjoyed the scavenger hunt finding Christmas trees and posters,” said junior Hannah Bowen.

The big service hour opportunity for members of the National Honor Society is the blood drive. On Jan. 13 The Red Cross will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Since in previous years they have run into spacing issues, they decided to move the event to a bigger area. If you are interested in making a difference and wanting to donate blood you can show up between the hours 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
