Judith A. Axe

Judith A. Axe, 73, of Rockford, Illinois, and formerly of Van Wert, died Monday morning, October 20, 2014, at her residence.

She was born March 12, 1941, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Floyd and Mary (Deffenbaugh) Showalter. She married William “Bill” Axe, who survives in Illinois.

Other survivors include three children, Scott Axe of Belvidere, Illinois, Todd (Christine) Axe of Loves Park, Illinois, and Christina (Roger) Klenz of Tremonton, Utah; three brothers, Daniel (Pat) Showalter of Citrus Heights, California, Jim Showalter of Atlanta, Georgia, and Michael (Karen) Showalter of Lima; three sisters, Jill (Tim) Boszor of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Julie (Tom) Gauvey of Van Wert, and Barbara Showalter of Elida; and six grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 24, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:30 that evening.

Preferred memorials: American Legion Post 1207 in Rockford, Illinois.
