Internet group donates laptop computers

Submitted information

Recently, the online gaming/technology group LanOC donated eight Dell laptop computers to the YWCA of Van Wert County for the YWCA’s upcoming after-school nutritional program.

The YWCA After-School Program, scheduled to begin later this fall, is an extension of the YWCA Summer Food Program, and aims to assure that children who are nutritionally at-risk receive a nutrient-rich evening meal and snack before going home.

This year’s program will be open to 36 participants from the ages of 6-13. In addition to meals, program participants will receive assistance with their homework and tutoring, physical activities, and will receive opportunities for field trips and participate in educationally enriched programming.

LanOC’s donated laptop computers will give program participants the opportunity to use technology while completing school projects, research, and homework.

Individuals, organizations or businesses interested in helping with the YWCA’s After-School Program can contact YWCA Executive Director Tammy Branham-Cripps at 419.238.6639.

The YWCA also receives funding from the United Way and Van Wert County Foundation.

LanOC is an organization hosting semi-annual LAN (local area network) parties in Van Wert, as well as an online community for individuals primarily in the tri-state area.

The group hosts an active forum for video game and technology discussion, as well as voice services for communication while in-game and game servers on which to play. LanOC’s website, http://lanoc.org, is also the landing page for LanOC Reviews, an online publication focusing on hardware and software reviews from a gamer’s point of view. The group’s latest event, LanOC v15.0, took place September 6-7 and included 136 participants.

LanOC’s next event, v16.0, will take place March 28-29, 2015, and members hope to continue growing by squeezing in a few extra seats. It is the hope of LanOC to continue raising money for needs in the community and help wherever it can.

LanOC’s event, v15.0, gave the organization the opportunity to not only provide the laptops to the YWCA, but also raised more than $1,300 for the Parkview Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  People are always welcome to donate directly to the cause by following the following link:
