Alma Ellen Bolenbaugh

Alma Ellen Bolenbaugh, 97, of Van Wert, died at 12:28 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born January 19, 1917, in Mercer County, the daughter of the late Philip and Rebecca (Williams) Swander. On March 30, 1937, she married John Vernon Bolenbaugh, who preceded her in death on May 16, 2008.

Survivors include a son, Jack A. (Sharon) Bolenbaugh of Van Wert; three daughters, Marjorie (Robert) Waldron of Celina and Carole Doner and Jean (Thomas J.) Metzger, both of Van Wert; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

A son-in-law, Ronald Doner; two brothers, Raymond and Kenneth Swander; and three sisters, Nettie Swander, Lucy Copeland and Ola Swander, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Harold Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 3-7 p.m. Monday, July 21, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans.
