CONVOY — Two Crestview High School senior athletes are heading for the next level of competition, as each signed letters of intent to play for Ohio colleges.

Kirsten Hicks, who lettered all four years of high school in each of three sports – basketball, volleyball, and softball – signed a letter of intent Friday to play softball for the University of Northwest Ohio.

Hicks said she liked the idea that UNOH was close and was smaller, something she was also looking for.

“All the other schools I was looking at were bigger,” Hicks said. “I like the community feel at UNOH.”

Hicks should be a big asset to the young Lady Racer team, since she has lots of experience playing for a top-caliber softball program.

Coach Carl Etzler praised Hicks for her dedication, noting she “always gives 100 percent” on the field and off.

Hicks was a Second Team All-Ohio selection in softball in 2013 and also a starter on Crestview’s Division IV state champion softball team in 2012.

UNOH also fits in with Hicks’ academic plans. She plans to major in healthcare administration at the school.

Scott Miller also chose Friday to sign his letter of intent to play football for Wilmington College. Miller, who plans to major in agribusiness, said Wilmington was a good fit for him, since it’s small and the football team is in a rebuilding year, which should allow him to make a contribution from the start.

Making a contribution is something Miller knows a lot about, according to Crestview Head Coach Jared Owens.

“He’s a two-year captain and a full-time leader,” Owens said. “Since he’s been in our program, nobody works harder in the weight room or in the classroom.”

Miller also earned state honors with a Third Team All-Ohio selection in football.
