DARE Golf Outing scheduled in May

Van Wert DARE information

The Van Wert City/County DARE Team would like to announce its upcoming 19th annual Golf Outing. The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 10, at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Van Wert. The tournament will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

In case of rain, the tournament will be played on Sunday, May 18, starting at 9 a.m. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 will be sponsoring the outing again this year.

DARE logoAll of the proceeds from the tournament go back to the youth of the community by helping to fund students’ DARE schooling on the hazardous effects of drugs, alcohol, and violence. DARE also teaches important family values and other important aspects that children will need throughout their lives. DARE is a self funded program, so it’s through fundraisers like this golf outing that the program is able to continue to help local young people.

Golf outing organizers are still in need of hole sponsors at the cost of $100. The sponsor’s company or individual name will be put on a sign and then posted at one of the holes on the course. The sign shows that sponsors are supporting the DARE Program.

The cost of the tournament is $50 per man for a four-person team. The cost includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch and door prizes. The tournament is limited to 36 teams. Team rosters are available at Hickory Sticks Golf Club or by contacting DARE Officer Greg Blackmore at 419.238.2462 or Chief Deputy Keith Allen at 419.239.3866. Also if any other information about the tournament is needed feel free to contact us.

This is the 14th year that Young’s Waste Service will be sponsoring the $10,000 “Hole-In-One” Contest that takes place on Hole 4. On three other Par 3 holes on the course, a hole in one will win a bonus prize. At the end of the tournament a chance to putt a 50-foot putt for $2,500 will be raffled off. Young’s Waste Service has been supporting the DARE program ever since the business opened. Owners Richard Riley, Rich Riley and Steve Hall said they believe in the DARE program and what it does for the youth of the community.
