County Foundation awards $240,000

The Van Wert County Foundation Board of Trustees announced more than $240,000 in community grants approved during its December meeting.

Local schools and non-profit agencies were among those who received grants ranging from $1,000 to a $50,000 grant awarded to Van Wert County Hospital to help pay for its 2010 Emergency Room project.

Other organizations receiving grants include the following:

Brumback Library received $3,900 from the Gary L. Tomczak Fund.

Van Wert County Council on Aging received $20,000 from the Julia M. and Lawrence “Bert” Strete Fund.

Crestview Local Schools Music Department received $1,500 from the Gaylord and Eliza Saltzgaber Fund.

First Presbyterian Church was granted $4,100 from the Leslie Endowment Fund and $27,500 from the James P. Johnson Fund.

Lincolnview Local Schools Music Department received $1,500 from the Gaylord and Eliza Saltzgaber Fund.

Ohio State University Extension received $8,600 from the Black Inc. Fund to pay for a 4-H intern, and another $1,000 for a Van Wert signage project from the David L. Brumback and Vernon H. Evans funds.

Vantage Career Center was awarded $37,500 from the Rose R. and Ellis C. Lampke Fund by Frieda Rothacker.

Van Wert City Schools Music Department was awarded $8,700 from the Leslie Endowment Fund and $500 for choir robes from the Charles Lincoln Ireland Fund.

The Van Wert County Agricultural Society (fair board) was awarded $10,000 from the James A. and Minnie C. Kesler Fund to pay for Commercial Building improvements.

Van Wert County Hospital was given $50,000 from the Julia M. and Lawrence Strete, James A. and Minnie C. Kesler and William J. Flickinger funds for the ER project.

The Salvation Army of Van Wert County received $5,000 from the Ilo D and Carlos E. Miller Fund.

Van Wert Special Olympics was awarded $3,000 from the Oscar J. Scaer Fund.

Van Wert Soil and Water Conservation District was given $5,000 from the Julia M. and Lawrence Bert Strete Fund.

Van Wert Youth Baseball was awarded $4,000 from the Harold B. and Dortha F. Cully Fund.

The YMCA of Van Wert County was given $25,000 from the Alice B. Andersen Fund.

The YWCA of Van Wert County was awarded $25,000 from the Associated Charities, John E. Alspach, Walter A. Hofmann, Clyde S. Fergus and Oscar and Norman C. Feigert funds (click here for more photos).
