The Wildcats, usually an air-oriented team, split its offense evenly, with 152 yards on the ground and 153 passing yards. The Cougars were minus-16 yards on the ground and generated only 20 yards through the air on seven completed passes out of 20 attempts, while quarterback Colin Smith also threw two interceptions on the night.

Kenton quarterback Grant Sherman was 14 of 31 and connected for two touchdowns, while getting picked off once.

The Wildcats’ first score came at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter as Sherman ran the ball into the end zone from the Van Wert 10-yard line. Sherman then connected with Kuert Lautenschlager on a PAT pass to make it 8-0, Kenton.

All of the game scoring came in the first half, as Kenton scored its three other touchdowns in the second quarter, starting with a 1-yard pass from Sherman to Kollin Stollar with 11:08 remaining in the second stanza. Matt Bahr ran for the extra point to make it 18-0 in favor of the Wildcats.

Kenton’s next score came on a 27-yard run by Stollar with 7:42 remaining in the first half. The PAT attempt failed and the Wildcats led 24-0.

The final touchdown of the game for Kenton came with 1:42 remaining in the second quarter when Sherman connected with Conner Jones on a 12-yard scoring strike. Stollar ran for the two-point conversion and the final score of 32-0.

Stollar was the top rusher in the game with 57 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Angelo Lombardo rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries for the Wildcats.

Jones was the top receiver in the game, with three catches for 36 yards and a TD.

With the win, Kenton is now 3-0 in league play and 4-0 overall, while the Cougars are 0-3 in the WBL and 0-4 overall.

Van Wert will travel to Elida next Friday for another league match-up with the Bulldogs, who are 1-2 in the league and 2-2 overall following a 34-14 win over St. Marys on Friday.
