Delores A. ‘Dee’ Whitcraft

Delores A. “Dee” Whitcraft, 67, of Van Wert, died at 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born January 30, 1946, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late George and Edna (Deitrich) Hofmann. On February 18, 1967, she married Steve Whitcraft, who survives in Van Wert.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (Traci) Whitcraft of Cleveland, Tenn., and Jason (Angie) Whitcraft of West Liberty; three sisters, Louise (Wayne) Showalter  and Ella (Dick) Jackson, both of Van Wert, and Elsie (Al) Selking of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Kaleb, Taylor, Jordan, Spencer, and Camille Whitcraft, and Courtney, Brianna and Gabriella Van Horne.

A brother, Oscar Hofmann, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Whitcraft is a retired director for Vantage Career Center in Van Wert. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, also in Van Wert, and a current member of the Van Wert Rotary Club, the Western Ohio Educational Foundation (WOEF) Board of Trustees, and Van Wert Twig II. She is a past president of Main Street Van Wert, the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce, and United Way of Van Wert County. Dee was also instrumental in the creation of Wee Care Day Care Center in Van Wert.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 13, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Will Haggis officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, September 12, and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Preferred memorial: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert.
