Van Wert’s wrestling team had a good showing in Greene County on Saturday, Van Wert’s girls’ basketball team traveled to nearby Delphos and Lincolnview’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were in action.

Wrestling

Cougars finish third at Bellbrook

BELLBROOK — Van Wert brought home an individual champion, a pair of runner-up finishers, a third place finisher and two fourth place finishers from the Bellbrook Invitational on Saturday. As a team, the Cougars finished third out of 12 teams.

Gabe Steyer won the 145 pound weight class title by pinning Wilmington’s Sam Eastes in 93 seconds. On the day, Steyer went 4-0, including two pins and a pair of technical falls to improve his record to 20-1.

Malachi Battle (170) finished second after being pinned in 1:27 in the championship match by Devin Oligee, and Eli Kline (285) recorded a runner up finish after he was pinned by Ryle (KY) High School’s Tayshawn Marshall in 50 seconds.

Killian Sudduth (120) notched a third place finish after being pinned by Wilmington’s Carson Hibbs in 3:26, while Macein Bigham (152) and Spencer Blue (195) each finished fourth. Bigham was pinned by Centerville’s Justin Waller in 2:08, while Blue lost via pin to Centerville’s Brendan Fentress in 1:53.

Boys basketball

Fort Recovery 59 Lincolnview 56

FORT RECOVERY — Lincolnview led by one entering the fourth quarter, but Fort Recovery outscored the Lancers 15-10 in the final period to win 59-55 on Saturday.

Lincolnview was up 45-44, but the Indians went on a 10-0 run before Collin Overholt hit a basket and a three pointer to pull the Lancers to within four, 54-50. Creed Jessee later knocked down a pair of foul shots to draw closer, but Fort Recovery responded with a basket by Brian Bihn. Another trey by Overholt made it a one point game, 56-55, but Fort Recovery secured the win from the free throw line.

The Indians led 24-15 after one quarter, but Lincolnview trimmed the deficit to one, 32-31 at halftime.

Bihn led all scorers with 20 points, while Jessee had 17 points and Overholt scored 16. Aaron Cavinder also cracked double digits and finished with 11.

The loss dropped Lincolnview to 5-4. The Lancers will travel to Columbus Grove on Friday then will head to Miller City on Saturday.

Girls basketball

Delphos Jefferson 49 Van Wert 47

DELPHOS — A late offensive rebound and ensuing basket by Delphos Jefferson’s Mallory Bridges was the difference, as the LadyCats rallied for a 49-47 win over Van Wert on Saturday.

Ironically, it was the only basket scored all game by Bridges, who also hit two foul shots in the first half.

Delphos Jefferson led 5-4 after a low scoring first quarter, but the Lady Cougars enjoyed a 10-5 second quarter scoring edge to lead 14-9 at halftime. Van Wert’s Kyra Welch scored five of her eight points in the quarter.

The pace picked up in the third quarter, as Jaylyn Rickard and Sofia Houg combined for 11 of Van Wert’s 17 points, and the Lady Cougars led 31-28 by the end of the period. Addy Stewart countered with six points in the quarter, while Aly Lindeman added five.

Including the game winner by Bridges, Delphos Jefferson went on to outscore Van Wert 21-16 in the final quarter, with Stewart scoring seven of her 13 points, and Lindeman adding five of her game high 16 points. Delaney. Houg scored eight of her 15 points in the period.

Delphos Jefferson (5-6) will host Miller City on Tuesday, and Van Wert (2-8) will travel to St. Marys Memorial on Thursday.

Minster 61 Lincolnview 31

MINSTER — Defending Division IV state champion Minster was too much for Lincolnview, as the Wildcats defeated the Lady Lancers 61-31 on Saturday.

Minster (10-2) set the tone early by jumping out to a 13-2 lead after one, then extending it to 26-14 at halftime. The Wildcats nearly matched their first half output in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 23-8, before enjoying a 12-9 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Jordan Decker led Lincolnview with nine points, while Brianna Ebel chipped in with seven. The Lady Lancers shot 44 percent from the floor (14-32), but were plagued by 22 turnovers. Ivy Wolf and Janae Hoying each scored 13 for Minster, and the Wildcats finished with a 23-15 rebounding advantange.

Lincolnview (0-9) will host Kalida on Tuesday.
