Ilene Mary (Hanefeld) Baer

Ilene Mary (Hanefeld) Baer, 90, of Van Wert, passed away shortly after arrival Sunday morning at Van Wert Health.

She was born March 23, 1928, in Brown Township, Paulding County, the daughter of Louis and Edna (Kirkendall) Hanefeld, who both preceded her in death. On December 13, 1947, she married Perl Dean Baer, who died March 25, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel L. (Terri) Baer of Napoleon, and Kevin E. (Kris) Baer of Convoy.

A son, W. Devon Baer, who died May 2, 2005, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Harrison Township, with Pastor Timothy Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, where an American Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 7 that evening, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials: St. Thomas Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
