Wren Ballpark honors Springer, Davis

Wren Ballpark marked its 66th season of youth sports with an opening day ceremony on Sunday, May 6. During the ceremony, the back baseball/softball field was renamed “Springer-Davis Memorial Field” in honor of long time community members Mason Springer and Larry “Moe” Davis. Springer and Davis were two of the founding members of the Wren Ballpark in 1954 and coached several decades while serving the Wren community in many other capacities. Among other things, Springer was instrumental in starting the Wren Classic Basketball Tournament at Crestview High School as a ballpark fundraiser. Davis was instrumental in the birth of the Wren Wiffleball Tournament with his sons. Also of note, a moment of silence and tree dedication was observed for long time ball park volunteer and coach Mike Chesbro, who passed away this year after a courageous battle with cancer.
