PAULDING — Lincolnview opened Division IV postseason play with a 49-34 victory over a stubborn Continental team at Paulding High School on Tuesday night.

Continental’s season came to an end at 1-22, while the Lancers improved to 16-7 and advanced to Friday’s sectional championship game against Wayne Trace.

Lincolnview led 11-9 after the first quarter, with Caden Ringwald, Chayten Overholt and Zane Miller each tossing in treys, while Ethan Kemler had a two point bucket.

The Lancers opened the second quarter with a 14-2 scoring run. Alek Bowersock had back-to-back steals and baskets. A bucket by Caleb Olds drew the Pirates to within four, 15-11, but Lincolnview answered with baskets by Ringwald and Kemler, followed by consecutive triples by Ringwald and Overholt. Continental’s Chris Potts and Olds scored the final two buckets of the quarter to make it 25-15 at halftime.

A quick trey by Mitchell Coleman to open the third quarter pulled the Pirates to within seven, 25-18, but Zane Miller drained a triple of his own to push the advantage back to 10. After the two teams traded baskets, Lincolnview scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 35-22.

The Pirates refused to go away, and began the final period with six unanswered points on a three pointer by Olds and a bucket and foul shot by Jared Keck. Ringwald hit a pair of free throws then Miller hit from the floor to give the Lancers a 40-28 lead nearly halfway through the quarter. An offensive rebound and basket by Continental’s Christian Keller, then a bucket by Old made it 40-32, but that was as close as the Pirates would get.

Overholt hit a trey with 2:25 left to make it 43-32, then the Lancers went to work from the foul line, with Kemler, Bowersock and Ringwald all connecting from the charity stripe.

Ringwald finished with 16 points, while Overholt and Bowersock each tallied 11. Olds led Continental with 16.

Lincolnview enjoyed a 21-14 rebounding advantage, and the Lancers committed just four turnovers on the night, compared to 14 for the Pirates. Lincolnview converted 9 of 12 foul shots, while Continental went to the free throw line just once.

Friday’s Lincolnview-Wayne Trace sectional championship game will begin at 6 p.m. at Paulding High School. The winner will move on to next week’s Elida district and will face either Delphos St. John’s or Hicksville.
