Lady Lancers win Chatt Ins. tourney title

ROCKFORD — The Lincolnview Lady Lancers outscored Delphos Jefferson 29-17 in the second half to win the Chatt Insurance Holiday Tournament championship game played Tuesday night at Parkway High School.

Julia Thatcher led Lincolnview with 19 points, while Hannah McCleery added 11 points for the Lady Lancers. Heather Pohlman was the Lady Wildcats’ top scorer with 12 points, while Brooke Culp added 11 points for Jefferson.

Delphos got out to the early lead and was up by four points, 16-12, at the end of the first quarter. Neither team generated much offense in the second period, with the Lady Lancers able to take a point off the Jefferson lead to trail by three, 19-16, at the half.

The second half was different, as the Lancers finally got their offense on track, with Lincolnview scoring 18 points in the third quarter alone to go up by five points, 34-29, with three quarters out of the way. The Lancers outscored Jefferson 11-7 in the final stanza to secure the victory.

Neither team shot well, with Lincolnview making 15 of 39 field goal attempts (38.5 percent), including just 1 of 7 from three-point range (14.3 percent). The Lady Lancers were 14 of 25 from the free-throw line (56 percent).

Delphos Jefferson was 13 of 37 from the field (35.1 percent), including 3 of 13 from the behind the arc (23.1 percent). The Lady Wildcats made 7 of 18 from the charity stripe (38.9 percent).

Delphos dominated on the boards, bringing down 32 rebounds to 21 for the Lancers, while both teams had 16 turnovers for the game.
